Priorities
You know, I have no fucking idea where—or if—I’m going to be working a year from now, but I have to admit, life is good. On Saturday night, I’m going to Purgatory (potentially NSFW). I did promise. I’m only mildly—very, very mildly—disappointed that I’ll not be hanging out with tired, sweaty teenagers at ASU. I’m [...]
Keeping the X in Xmas
A very Walken Christmas. I don’t usually enjoy—or even long tolerate, really—the Seuss this and the ‘Twas the Night things. This one was oddly gripping. Needed more cowbell.
Diet Coke and Mentos
Don’t remember why this kept coming up last week, but I’d promised to track it down for Mom. Cool stuff. And one of the fellas is named “Fritz”.
Career Day
One more for today, and that’s enough catchup for now. Received the following from my friend Eddie:
One day a fourth-grade teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up: fireman, mechanic, businessman, salesman, doctor, lawyer, and so forth.
But little Justin was being uncharacteristically quiet, so when the [...]
If Books Were Sold as Software
Culled from today's issue of NewsScan. Emphasis and the embedded link are mine.
If Books Were Sold as Software (By Jef Raskin)
If books were sold as software and online recordings are, they would have this legalese up front:
The content of this book is distributed on an 'as is' basis, without warranty as to accuracy of content, [...]
ADCHOO
I just stumbled across an explanation for why my kids and I sneeze when we walk out into the sun. A Slashdot poll on the subject led me to a couple of other links.
Wikipedia refers to it as "ADCHOO", or Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst—a backronym, of course, but kinda funny anyway. There's a little [...]
Huge URL
I’ve known about TinyURL for a while, but this is a nice twist: HugeURL. Here, for example, is a link to the Vance Band site:

Snowstorm 2004
Some pics from the snowstorm we got not too long after the Superbowl this year. We had fun making a Janet Jackson-inspired snowperson. I'm glad we took pictures the first day, because she was in pieces the following morning.
Beer & Underappreciated Barmaids
Suzette and I went to the Saucer tonight. There was a guy there who ordered what he thought was a $2.50 draft—all North Carolina pints are $2.50 on Sundays—but the computer was wrong. Now, I'm not going to get into bashing the Saucer's sofware and web site tonight, no matter how easy that would be [...]
